Build gaming frameworks with XNA

The project involves using Microsofts XNA framework to build a dynamic 3D Game engine that is flexible enough to act as a core framework for a wide variety of games. Community participation in this project is actively encouraged.

The current situation is :

  • A camera that can freely move.
  • Terrain with LOD (Multitextured)
  • Sky Dome for nice looking sky
  • UI Base Class (includes font rendering to scene)
  • User Input component to handle all user input
Performance is not optimal. Each frame is rendering an awfully high level of detail, far in excess of production detail levels.

Features currently under development :

  • Realistic looking water
  • Picking (allows objects in 3d space to be selected by the cursor)
  • Stability improvements (some device settings changes cause crashing due to events not being handled)
  • Addition of server based saving of generated maps.
  • model placing (so objects can be dropped in to the 3d world)

Staff needed for project :

  • Modellers (Direct X compatible models)
  • UI Designers
  • Additional Developers to work under project management

The core of the project is based around riemers tutorials and works with resources acquired elsewhere.
