Build gaming frameworks with XNA

The project involves using Microsofts XNA framework to build a dynamic 3D Game engine that is flexible enough to act as a core framework for a wide variety of games. Community participation in this project is actively encouraged.

The current situation is :

  • A camera that can freely move.
  • Terrain with LOD (Multitextured)
  • Sky Dome for nice looking sky
  • UI Base Class (includes font rendering to scene)
  • User Input component to handle all user input

Performance is not optimal. Each frame is rendering an awfully high level of detail, far in excess of production detail levels.

Features currently under development :

  • Realistic looking water
  • Picking (allows objects in 3d space to be selected by the cursor)
  • Stability improvements (some device settings changes cause crashing due to events not being handled)
  • Addition of server based saving of generated maps.
  • model placing (so objects can be dropped in to the 3d world)

Further to the client based requirements we are looking to build a unique "modular" server for generalised MMO type games that can handle any munber of users based on a scaleable model as well as a rich management tool set that can be used to administer all aspects of the game server remotely.

Improvements to the architecture are constantly being made and a lot of rethinking has happened since the launch of this project, Watch this space for updates !!!

Staff needed for project :

  • Modellers (Direct X compatible models)
  • UI Designers
  • Additional Developers to work under project management

Riemer Provides excellent tutorials that get new keen game rookies in to developing a base for a high end product by means of his own tutorials.

The core of the client aspects of the project started around riemers tutorials and works with resources acquired elsewhere.

The Team @ www.ccoder.co.uk
The people you meet in the forums, admins, moderators and of course the development team are all volunteers and do this as a hobby.
Appreciating this work is key to understanding that a lot has gone in and a lot will continue to as long as we look after our crew.
